Samsung has launched a new mobile video service that will be exclusively available to owners of Samsung Galaxy devices. The service, which will be called ‘Milk Video’, is a video discovery service that that will feature content from entertainment brands and networks including Condé Nast, Funny Or Die, Red Bull, Vevo and VICE, among others. Samsung also say some of their content partners will be unveiling exclusive material for the service.
“The promise of Milk is a well-designed mobile experience that makes it easy to discover the content you want. We did this first with Milk Music, and now, we extend this promise with Milk Video,” said John Pleasants, Samsung EVP, Media Solutions Center America. “Samsung is committed to giving our customers the best software and services to enhance their device experience. We’re partnering with some of the best brands in new media to deliver great content across our consumers’ passion points: music, comedy, lifestyle and entertainment.”
Samsung say the straightforward design and personalisation features are so intuitive that ‘searching is a thing of the past’, although that might also suggest that there will only be a limited pool of content to begin with. The app will also have some social features and users can follow friends, brands and other users. Similarly, users will be able to share content outside of the app via Facebook, Twitter or email offers another option for others to see what you’re enjoying on Milk Video whether or not they have Milk Video. However, your friends won’t be able to see what you’re watching unless they have Milk Video too, which suggests that content on Milk Video won’t be going viral any time soon.
