This week’s Ad of the Week was produced by Greenpeace for their Save the Arctic campaign, which tells the story of a polar bear forced out of her Arctic habitat by climate change. Now in London,
Paddington the bear sets out on a lonely journey around the city to find a home and food, passing by a Shell petrol station forecourt along the way. Greenpeace say Shell is currently sending two rigs to Alaska to exploit melting sea ice to drill for more oil.
The soundtrack is “Everything in its right place” from Radiohead’s 2000 album Kid A, which fits the mood and the theme of the ad wonderfully. The remarkably realistic polar bear costume was operated by puppeteers from the Broadway and West End productions of ‘Warhorse’. The voiceover at the end is by Jude Law.
After watching, why not join the debate on YouTube, where the conversation focuses not on how mankind can tackle climate change, but on whether Greenpeace actually let a real polar bear loose on the streets of London so they could make an ad.
